Thank you, David, and farewell

One of those mornings where you wake up feeling good, looking forward to the day, then you check the news and your heart just breaks as you scream, "NO!". What an amazing man and an amazing life. The words Icon, Legend, Genius get thrown about too freely these days, but David Bowie was the true embodiment of those words. One of a kind artist, never to be seen again.

And I love that even while going through the awfulness that is Cancer, he still found the strength and grace to put together one last collection of songs, to give us all one final gift. Thank you so much, David! For this and everything else you gave us. Farewell, sir.

From The Telegraph: David Bowie's last release, Lazarus, was 'parting gift' for fans in carefully planned finale.

You can also thank David for long Cure shows.
Thanks @object29

Thanks Perfect.Murder

What was it like to direct David Bowie?
"We used to laugh an awful amount." The film director Tim Pope worked with David Bowie for 15 years, directing his music videos and concerts. Here, you can watch his interview in full where he shares some of his memories. We'd love to have been a fly on the wall...

  8. Beautifully shared, Craig. Only one David Bowie. Love Reeves' words. A reminder of just how blessed we are to have these amazing contributions to our lives while they, and we, are here.

  11. I was thinking prior to this sad news, how Lazarus sounds - at least at the beginning - like a track from Faith - the drumming and the beautiful guitar. It's very hard for listen to that song since David's passing.

    1. The NPR interview was very sweeet. Reeves is very articulate and obviously has great affection for David.

  15. Shocking and very sad news. A true genius who has passed from this world way too soon. The title track Blackstar off the new release is an absolute work of art. I got the "Faith" vibe from the single release Lazarus" also. RIP David . There will never be anything to compare with your innovative musical genius.

  17. Was in tears all of yesterday. Lost my biggest idol, like a mentor. Luckily I'll have Smith to help me get by this summer.
I'll never forget you David, love you.
Time to put Blackstar for another spin, even though I might well up again. Like the man said in Lazarus, I got scars, and this new one is in the shape of Bowie, and I'm not getting rid of it.

  18. David Bowie taught me the importance of being unique and different and embracing it, but more than anything, to do it well.

I just listened to Quicksand, and right towards the last verse I'm a mess of tears. It's as if he was singing it to us as he ascended back home...

  19. How many days later? I'm still reeling from this. It's impossible to overstate how much this man impacted the music we listen to today. Not just his own stuff but the hundreds of bands (like the Cure) who he probably inspired. The world just got a little smaller.
